This Post is all about what makeup products to avoid wearing to the gym
Let’s be real- working out with makeup on is DEFINITELY the move. Look good lift good right? I know people have a lot to say about “dressing up” for the gym but there’s nothing but support here. I love feeling and looking my best daily and stepping into the gym should feel no different. From experience, these are just a couple products I would avoid when getting ready for the gym.
Table of Contents
What Makeup Not to Wear to the Gym
1. Heavy Liquid Foundations
Try to avoid any full coverage foundations. These formulas are typically pretty thick and oily, which can turn patching once you start sweating and might cause clogged pores.
I always try and go for more of light weight skin tint and one days when I want a little more coverage, adding a powder on top always does me right!
2. Heavy Under-Eye Concealer
Concealer is great but can be difficult when it comes to sweat. Try and avoid putting too much on, especially under your eyes.
I like more of a serum-based concealer that I can easily blend with my fingers. I find that applying product with brushes uses a lot more product then is needed which can result in patchy makeup after a sweaty workout.
3. Dark Bronzer
Dark cream bronzers don’t hold up well in the gym. Sweat often results in a patchy and streaky sculpt, especially around the hairline (Trust me, I know)
I often opt out of the bronzer and contour area when it comes to my gym makeup. But if you do love a good sun kissed moment, try and reach for a lighter shade that won’t be as noticeable.
4. Highlighter
Highlight + sweat isn’t a good combo. I recommend not going this route at all. Sweat glimmer and makeup shimmer just looks greasy (I’m sorry!)
5. Normal Mascara
I love me an eye moment but make sure that mascara is waterproof at least. sweating a lot results in the classic racoon eye. If that’s your thing, rock it, but for the rest of us waterproof is the move.
I also, recently got into doing my own lash extensions which I’ve come to really love, so if that’s something you into, another great option (it also saves me about 10 mins that it used to take me to perfect my mascara)
6. Powder Blush
If your anything like me, tired and red faced is how I leave the gym. I have no need for a blush during this part of my day. But if you insist, go for a cream blush that’s buildable so you can go lighter on those gym days.
Makeup Every Gym Girl Needs
1. Sunscreen
Skin prep! You NEED good skin prep. Your make up only looks as good as your skin prep routine. I’ve recently added sunscreen to my routine and I’ve been loving this one.
2. Skin Tint
I love this skin tint. Super lightweight and hydrating. It is very low coverage and a little shiny (lumi) but I top it with a powder, and the two products complement each other so well.
3. Powder
This powder paired with the lumi glotion = chief’s kiss. So light wight and breathable. I also find that the powder provides a little more coverage when paired with the skin tint.
3. Brows
Brows are a hit or miss for me. Sometimes I like adding something to hold them in place or fill them in, but I often skip out.
One those days I like adding a little something I’ve been loving this brow gel!
4. Mascara
I love a good mascara. This one is one of my favs. It doesn’t explicitly say waterproof, but the formula doesn’t smug on me + super cheap. Can’t beat a good deal!
5. Lip Stain
I’ve never really been a lip product girly but sometimes I get the urge to dapple with a colored lip.
This lip stain is the best. Once it’s on, I don’t have to worry about it for the rest of the day. I wear it with and without a topper gloss/balm.
6. Lip Balm
This ointment is amazing for dry lips. So, hydrating and lightweight/thin formula AND it’s made in Australia 😉
Tips+Tricks for the BEST Makeup Selection
(Gym Girl Edition)
1. Start With Skin Prep, Not More Makeup
Your skincare determines how well gym makeup lasts.
2. Choose Sweat-Friendly Formulas
Not all makeup handles sweat the same.
3. Personalize Based on Your Skin Type
Gym makeup should match how your skin behaves during workouts.
4. Prioritize Products That Won’t Smudge
At the gym you’re touching your face, wiping sweat, and moving a lot.
5. Think “Enhancement,” Not Full Glam
Gym makeup works best when it’s strategic and minimal.
